Advocating for Mental Health GST Reform
Advocating for Mental Health GST Reform
A Public Interest Litigation has been filed by Anvi to understand the government’s stance on appropriate categorisation of Mental Health Services in the GST framework. Anvi received a letter from the National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, in response to the RTI application (dated 13th September 2024) regarding the GST categorisation of mental health services. An unsatisfactory response of ‘Institute does not have such information’ was tagged to critical questions. Furthermore, a response stating ‘GST is generally not applicable to Mental Health Services’ was attached to a query probing if any mental health services are exempt from the 18% GST rate, raising concerns over the varying perceptions around the matter.

The organisation encourages students to explore and cultivate their curiosity in technology, introduces them to coding, and grooms them to become leaders in tech. Their focus lies on children from marginalised communities as they believe: “Ability is evenly distributed. Exposure and opportunity are not.” Anvi was able to contribute meaningfully to this venture by holding 25+ online sessions with the students on Art & English.
